Assange allows the left to play at revolution, without fear of getting hurt. People may die because of Assange, but it will generally be in parts of the world that they hardly ever visit, except as protest tourists, flashing their EU or American passports, sweeping in to take some photos of the native wildlife, pose with a local human rights activist, maybe wave a sign or throw a stone, and then head on home to their flat and their flatscreen and their good life.
Seen in that light, Wikileaks is less a resource and more of a theme park, lending the experience of virtual revolution to the pampered sons and daughters of the prosperous West, allowing them to participate in imaginary assaults on the regime without ever leaving the comfort of their living room. So much of the activism has been headed that way, like Twitter campaigns in which people with nothing at stake pretend that they're making a difference in the protest movements of countries like Iran, where protesters are tortured, raped and murdered.

UKBA, yet another institution exemplifying British incompetence, ordered staff not to search for concealed drugs over Christmas. You know because there was like so much snow on the ground, and people had the flu, and were hungover, there was like, totally a major staff shortage.
What else, or more importantly who else slipped through the border over Christmas??
An email from the UK Border Agency on December 23 told customs employees at the airport they should 'not actively seek to identify any passenger with internal concealments' due to staff shortages.
The UKBA has now apologised for the edict, which would have allowed mules carrying Class A substances to stroll through the west London airport unhindered.

More than 300 patients in intensive care as Swine Flu sweeps the country (Daily Mail)
UK snow: rail passengers endure travel misery as Heathrow fiasco enters fifth day (Telegraph)
Met Office warns of more snow as bitter breeze adds to big freeze (Metro)
Christmas dinner hits the skids: Fears grow that supermarkets will run out of fresh food before the big day (Daily Mail)
And so can we expect tomorrow's headlines to read something along the following....
Thousands of tourists infected with swine flu as they wait for incompetent BAA chief to clear runway at Heathrow after he refused offer of military assistance as snow continues to fall delaying the arrival (by air) of swine flu vaccinations and the NHS is advising the public to stay indoors and eat well during this blistering blizzard however nobody is eating because the lorries are stuck on the motorway and the kids have no presents and Christmas is ruined as the entire country is sick and is tired of the snow even though we barely have any on the ground and the only people who are happy are the twelve terrorists recently arrested by Scotland Yard because all the stores of run out of ham and everyone is having a halal Christmas.

It is understood that the plans for the alleged attacks were at an advanced stage and involved 'multiple' locations.
West Midlands Police said in a statement: 'All were arrested at or near their home addresses, with the exception of one suspect from Stoke who was at a domestic property in Birmingham.
'Searches are now being conducted at the home addresses, plus the address in Birmingham and another residence in London.
'The suspects will be held at police stations in central London, the North West and the West Midlands.'
The police statement said five of the suspects were from Cardiff, four were from Stoke-on-Trent and three were from London, including the 17-year-old.
The operation is being led by Metropolitan Police Deputy Assistant Commissioner Stuart Osborne, the Senior National Co-ordinator Terrorist Investigations, and is being coordinated from the West Midlands Counter-Terrorism Unit.

So today, investing in fame is like investing in gold, except in a world where a gold standard still applied. Fame is the new "Owning your own home" or "Buy land: God's not making any more of it."
I hope one day Kathy writes it.

Grandma got run over by a thesis.
Crackpot Marxist bollocks did the trick.
You may think "white" Jews "misuse" the Shoah.
And if you do, my dear, you're really sick...
Just remember this:
But Peto is a small fish. The bigger problem here is OISE — the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, AKA UToronto’s teacher’s college — itself. For years, I’ve been hearing tales of political correctness gone amok at OISE, including radical anti-Israeli events. But it took the Peto case to really get me probing around to see what else is going on at OISE.
Someone else who’s been doing his homework is Werner Cohn, a former UBC sociology prof now living in New York. Below, reproduced with his permission, is his analysis of the 36 internet-available master’s theses that have been conducted under the auspices of OISE’s Department of Sociology and Equity Studies in Education department. They read like a satire of 1990s-era political correctness.
Surely, the higher-ups at UToronto know about this sort of thing. Will the Peto scandal give them the excuse they need to clean house?
The men, one of whom was apparently called Steve, died five days ago when a Hellfire missile was fired from a remote controlled American drone in the town of Datta Khel. If confirmed, they would be the first white British converts to have been killed in the area. The militants, who were aged 48 and 25 and using the pseudonyms Abu Bakr and Mansoor Ahmed, were in a vehicle with two other fighters.
Baird's anti-Israel diatribes are nothing new, however this video is still getting posted. Just a reminder that he is still out spreading lies.

At this point, it should be said loud and clear that the vast majority of Asian men are decent, law-abiding citizens and that rapists come from all racial and social backgrounds.
But as Emma, a 21-year-old who eight years ago became a sex slave in another northern town and now counsels other victims, told the Mail recently: ‘The truth is, most men running the gangs in the north of England are Asians of Pakistani origin. But very few of the authorities will say this.’
Instead, it has been left to some outstandingly brave members of the Muslim community, former MP Ann Cryer (who was roundly criticised for speaking her mind when seven years ago she said Asian gangs were raping white girls) and a handful of the girl victims to highlight the reasons behind this deafening silence.
Mohammed Shafiq, director of the Lancashire-based Ramadhan Foundation, a charity working for peaceful harmony between different communities, has said: ‘I think the police are overcautious because they are afraid of being branded racist. These men are criminals and should be treated as criminals — whatever their race.’
In Derby this week, Shokat Lal, chairman of the city’s Pakistani Community Centre in the Normanton area — where many of the girls were taken to seedy flats and then sexually attacked by the gang – spoke out, too: ‘It is important that political correctness or fear of offending any particular group of people does not get in the way of protecting those who are vulnerable.
A 19-year-old has been arrested in connection with a plot to detonate a vehicle bomb at an annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony in Portland, Oregon, on Friday evening, the Justice Department announced.
Mohamed Osman Mohamud, a naturalized U.S. citizen from Somalia, was arrested on suspicion of attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction. He is a resident of Corvallis, Oregon, and is a student at Oregon State University, according to the FBI.
Mohamud was arrested by the FBI and Portland Police Bureau after he attempted to detonate what he believed to be an explosives-laden van that was parked near the tree-lighting ceremony in Portland's Pioneer Courthouse Square, the Justice

The former employee of Natterjacks clothes shop in Kingston refused to speak in detail about his part in the protest.
But he told the Standard: '[This] has ruined my life'.
Proof that police bureaucracy is allowing bratty teenagers to wreak havoc on a once great city (although I myself am not sure when that "once" was).
Exit question: Has this idiot learned his lesson?

Pat-downs often take up to four minutes, according to the TSA's website, though that could be longer if someone requests it be done in a room out of public view or if an ill-at-ease traveler asks for a full explanation of the procedure beforehand.
Factoring in those time estimates, it would take a total of around 15 minutes to put 100 people through a body scan — but at least 6 hours to pat down the same number of travelers.
The TSA's Chicago spokesman, Jim Fotenos, would not disclose how many travelers are normally selected for scans. He said only "a relatively small percentage" normally need pat-downs.
Fotenos declined to say if the agency was taking precautionary steps ahead of the protest, saying only that passengers can make their experience better "by coming prepared and arriving early."
On Friday, TSA head John Pistole told CBS's "The Early Show" that the close-quarter body inspections are unavoidable in a time of terrorist threats.
In a time of terrorist threats security officials should be profiling. Period. As I have written before, just sitting here at my desk in the wee hours of the morning I can think of several ways to wreak havoc on a flight after clearing security. Liquor bottles, hairpsray, hot coffee pots, wine bottles, a match, a lighter that has snuck through somehow.......of course we need some level of screening but if people actually believe that essentially strip searching EVERY passenger (except of course for a certain group trying to get excemptions on religous modesty grounds, ahem) will make for safer skies they are taking comfort in what is for the most part a waste of valuable resources.

We pretend that we go through this nonsense as a small price paid to ensure the safety of air travel. Rubbish. This has nothing to do with safety - 95 percent of these inspections, searches, shoe removals and pat-downs are ridiculously unnecessary. The only reason we continue to do this is that people are too cowed to even question the absurd taboo against profiling - when the profile of the airline attacker is narrow, concrete, uniquely definable and universally known. So instead of seeking out terrorists, we seek out tubes of gel in stroller pouches.

He said it was unusual because detonators are usually the hardest things for terrorist groups to find, while explosives are easier - particularly in Namibia, due to the country's mining industry.
The BKA said an X-ray of the luggage revealed batteries wired to a "detonator and a ticking clock".
It added: "Only the ongoing forensic investigation will show whether this was a live explosive."
Geroge Galloway is one nasty piece of work. The last time I saw him (in person) he was shaking hands with a couple of guys wearing keffiyehs and carrying signs saying that Jews are Nazis and that Muslims needed to unite and overtake the West. He was walking towards the stage at a large anti-Israel protest in Hyde Park, where one of the speakers was shouting in the microphone that Jews were murderers who should "not be allowed to walk the streets of Europe."
But just so I don't get sued - by allowing Galloway to spew his filth at York, President Mamdouh Shoukri is NOT tolerating anti semitism which is why he has fired up his lawyers and is getting ready to sue a Jew who dared (the audacity!) to suggest that bringing a known terror supporter (who was in fact kicked out of his own party) might make an already unhealthy environment worse.
Hey, maybe Shoukri doesn't think Galloway is an antisemite. Maybe Shoukri thinks that Galloway is just telling it like it is,......
What we know for sure is that Mamdouh seems to have little problem with Jewish students being attacked and intimidated on campus (or if he does he is pretty good at keeping his thoughts to himself), he appears to be cool with Geroge IHeartSaddamHusseinandHatedaJuice Galloway spreading his message on campus, but what he definitely does have a problem with is a Jew who critcizes him and suggests he might show up on campus.

The York Student Federation spent 15K to bring Ahmadinejad's arse licker to speak and unlike Ann Coulter or Christie Blatchford Galloway was allowed to address his psychophants without incident. Funny how that works eh?

Back in the spring this same group staged a "flashmob" although based on the crowd it could be more aptly called flopmob in an attempt to intimdate shoppers from purchasing Jewish products and companies who do business with Israel.
Also in Utrecht - earlier this year the Dutch arm of the Arab European League published some cartoons, which apparently they find very funny, questioning the number of Jews actually killed in the Holocaust. In fact, they went to court to over their right to publish the cartoons.
After hanging around the great USofA for a few days I realize I have some kind of reverse culture shock going on. Having lived in Europe for the past several years I have gotten very used to pushing people around, walking like I always have somewhere very important to be, looking out for myself and not smiling or acknowleding the presence of strangers. During my séjour in the States the husband and I were staying at a hotel with an elevator. After checking into the hotel we were headed up to our room when a man and his wife boarded the elevator - they looked over at us and said smiled. Whoa. I was confused. Then, as they got off the elevator they smiled again and wished us a good afternoon. My head was spinning, I felt like I was in a foreign country (ok so I was but that is besides the point). I was in culture shock! Suddenly I felt rude that I had not smiled and greeted people as they got on the elevator. This went on for several days - it is hard to recall a single time when someone on the elevator did not say hello, smile, wish us a good day, hold the door open to let the ladies off first or ask which floor we were going to. Every time a stranger was friendly to us I turned to my husband with a big smile and said "I love America."
Another thing I forgot was the (usually) great service in North American eateries! What? You don't have to ask for a refill? People actually come to see if you are enjoying your meal? I swear the service we got at Steak'n'Shake was comparable to The Savoy (our waitress was that good). My only disappointment was at Saks Fifth Avenue where the men's department seemed to have been vacated by all employees, but that did not dampen my day!
Sitting in a hotel flipping back and forth between Fox Business and ESPN after spending the day shopping at Nordstrom and eating at The Cracker Barrel.
Even in these crazy times the United States is still a breath of fresh air.

BCF is currently facing a $500,000 SLAPP suit from someone who clearly has too much time on their hands and who takes perverse pleasure in trying to stifle freedom of expression:
Warman is also suing for comments made by multiple readers. In one instance for the heinous crime of calling him a "Bully". We all know what this SLAPP suit is really all about. Warman is using every lawfare tactic he can to prevent a discussion in the public interest of Section 13 (1) and the CHRC. A discussion in which he must feature prominently.
Warman is suing me for $500,000.00 Dollars. A ridiculous amount for an equally ridiculous lawsuit. Nonetheless even nuisance suits such as this must be defended against. To date legal fees have run me about 10K. I've covered that from my own pocket. I am now asking for your help. I know times are hard for many of us but if every reader who visited daily were to contribute 5 or 10 dollars then that would go a long way to helping all of us out.
Here at SMW we do not ask for donations - and it is so in times like these I can refer to a friend in need of our support. Today I am asking you to put your money where your mouth (or eyes) are and show Blazing Cat Fur your support. Feed the kitty. Every little bit helps.

"Omar Khadr apologizes to U.S. soldier’s widow at tribunal"
OMG, this soap opera is getting ridiculous. Did the US military apologize to Khadr for killing his father?
This incident/killing happened in a war "scenario", complete with armed US soldiers and the backing of the US government. If the US was under the impression the other side was not going to fight back they should have sent in diplomats and not the military.

In 2010 we have a teenage boy doing a photoshoot in full makeup as he prepares to launch a line of nail polishes and fragrances.
We have a teenage girl slithering and gyrating half naked in a bed and thrusting her super slutified self onto other girls in a dance club.
Cleanser: Yes this video is a bit cheesy, but it still brings a smile. A real man and a beautiful woman with a squeaky clean reputation......starting their future as a family.
You brought them over here, not me. You supposedly need them to drive the cabs I don't take, and be the nannies I don't need and the housekeepers I can't afford, and run the restaurants only you get to eat in and run the shops you're too lazy or prissy to own yourselves.

Steyn and BCF can say just about anything better than I can so....
On Tuesday, I received a phone call from the LCC telling us that our venue had been pulled, and that Mark Steyn would not be permitted to speak there. The reason offered by the LCC was that they had received pressure from local Islamic groups, and they didn’t want to alienate their Muslim clients. It’s interesting to note that the LCC is owned by the City of London, and is therefore a government operation."

Professor Shlaim is a noted critic of Israeli policy, while Professor Edwards is the author of a recent study of Hamas.
But on Friday Professor Alderman says he received an email from Mr Farrow withdrawing the invitation to be on the panel.
Mr Farrow told him that he had made “a mistake in agreeing to extend an invitation to you Geoffrey without consulting the academics in question”.
Professor Alderman, who has gone to Belfast, has rejected an offer to participate in the debate as a member of the audience. He said he was “appalled at the way I have been treated”.
After a meeting with Mr Farrow early this afternoon, Professor Alderman said he had given the organisers three options: to allow him to join the panel and if his fellow-panellists were to object, "they could stay away": to let him to take part while sitting on a separate table: or simply to call off the event.

Read it all.
On one hand I completely agree with her.
On the other hand, an overwhelming sense of German nationalism makes me a little nervous. Am I the only one who feels that way?
Germany's chancellor says attempts to create a multicultural society in the country have "utterly failed." Angela Merkel said Saturday that the concept that different cultures can live happily side by side does not work.

I started writing this post several days ago and then lost track of it, oddly enough because I was swamped with my "real" job which is taking up increasingly large amounts of my time. Then this morning I read a little post over at Closet Conservative that seems to fit with this women wanting to be men idea (see below) and I decided to make this a three part series. Just to keep everyone coming back for more haha. Stay tuned.
The tone of their discourse seems to be that they have 'no choice' but to be the man of the family because they are more manly or something.
I think they are sad, empty shells of women who are married to a bunch of dickless eunuchs.
Most residents do not leave. According to the bailiff, they have instead developed their own parallel economy. 'The ambition is there but it's not to get a job or move out, it's to get benefits. And there is a definite career path. You or I would aim to get a better job. They aim to get a better benefit.’
This is worth checking out:
DFAIT (Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada) made the news recently for its role in the decision to invite the extremist Canadian Islamic Congress to speak at an absurd DND event purporting to celebrate Islamic History Month. Bad enough I'd say but it always seems to get worse.

Information laid out at the inquest is yet another reminder that ignoring your instincts can cost lives:
All four then caught the 07.25 Thameslink train to King’s Cross, where they entered the Tube network, each carrying a home-made bomb concealed in a rucksack.
Mr Keith said their behaviour had aroused suspicions among other passengers, who described them as avoiding eye contact and seeming ‘happy, even euphoric’.
At 08.49 Khan, Tanweer and Lindsay detonated their bombs, in tunnels near Tube stations at Edgware Road, Aldgate and Russell Square respectively.

This story says a great deal about today's society. Unfortunately SMW does not have time for a full commentary, but she is sure readers can come up with their own...
The chance of an attack in London seems quite likely on the most normal of days, so the media hype over the current threat really doesn't have my proverbial knickers in a twist. In London one must always be viglant (truly we should all be vigilant wherever we find ourselves).
To be totally honest seeing more armed police out on the streets actually makes me feel a bit safer. (Yes I am aware of one extremely unfortunate incident involving armed police and terror threats in London.) Every once in awhile as I swipe my Oyster card and walk through the gates I wonder 'what would happen if someone opened fire?' Would the British Transport Police yell: "Stop or I'll.......walk towards you unarmed and hope that you don't shoot me before I tackle you and your AK47"?? When I see security officers with semi automatics and loaded glocks I let out a small sigh of relief, then I pray that they do not have to use them.
Keep calm and carry on Londoners.
This is Canada and most people will not care. Nobody cares Mastercard is doing business with Truthers and genocide enthusiasts, let alone a prophecy spelled out in floating pasta. If this were five hundred years ago, we could just pick up and leave them all to it. But we have run out of planet and there is nowhere left to go.

A terrorist suspect killed in a drone attack in Pakistan last month was a British man tasked with leading an Al Qaeda group in the UK.
A senior Pakistani security source said that Abdul Jabbar was a British citizen who had a British wife and was living in Punjab, Pakistan.
According to the source, he was chosen as the leader of a new group, to be called The Islamic Army of Great Britain, at a meeting in the North Waziristan region of Pakistan three months ago.
Other stuff: Check the news for stories today about 12 men arrested in France (Marseille and Boredeaux) for planning Mumbai style attacks. Interesting to note: News reports are saying that many of these men were known to police and had been previously arrested on terror charges. More details are needed, but is this a good case study to point out that current EU laws are not adequate for dealing with the threat of terrorism?
She eventually moved after the station controller promised her he would not move the train and that the police would be called.
Two British Transport Police officers arrived and, after discussions with railway officials, the train was terminated.
Mrs Robinson said yesterday that she was glad she had made a stand and would do it again.
‘I think too often these yobs are allowed to get away with it,’ she added. ‘When the thugs started kicking off, one woman said to me that I should accept it as it was just the world we live in. But I refuse to live in a society where this sort of thing goes unpunished.
Some of the current headlines for this story also piss me off. From the G&M: Canadian soldier who shot unarmed Taliban avoids jail term. What image does that conjure up for you? For me it implies, “Bad Canadian solider shoots poor unarmed man and gets away with it.” And then there’s this from The Vancouver Sun: Canadian soldier avoids jail in death of Afghan insurgent. Again, this sounds like they’re implying Semrau got away with the murder of a poor “insurgent” (i.e. rebel, freedom fighter).
Am I the only one who thinks, “WTF?” We are at war
I am glad that it was not a dishonourable discharge but that is about it.

Kind of makes me glad that I have not shopped there much since the very anti-American Thanksgiving article they ran a couple years ago.

via Jawa Report:
Strong concerns that terrorist teams in Europe have selected their targets, completed their surveillance, eluded capture and are now ready to strike at airports and tourist attractions have prompted the State Department to ready a highly unusual travel advisory for Europe, multiple law enforcement and intelligence sources tell ABC News.
Intelligence and law enforcement officials have information that the teams could at any time launch a "Mumbai style" terror attack that targets civilians for death or hostage taking. The 2008 Mumbai attack used small arms and explosives to kill 175 people and paralyze the Indian city for days.
The current concerns are for scenarios that include opening fire at airports in Europe as well as executing similar attacks at "soft" targets like tourist attractions or hotels.
Personally I don't feel the threat is any greater today than it was yesterday. In London one must always be on alert (people should be vigilant, not paranoid). Still the travel alert is very interesting. Read the whole thing at Jawa.
Stay safe friends and fellow travelers : )

They can sue if they feel the comments ‘violate their dignity’ or create an ‘intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive environment’.
A one-off incident is enough to sue – there is no need for the ‘victim’ to have warned the perpetrator that their comments are unwelcome.
They could even have a case against their employer if a customer or contractor says something they find offensive.
One critic suggested employers could have to outlaw office banter to prevent offending anyone.

I see the last agenda item is a "cultural food tasting", which is probably why they decided to invite Imam Delic of the Canadian Islamic Congress and not Wahida "The Hutt" Valiante, President of the CIC, Chair of Islamic History Month and 911 Troofer!

That leads us to the absurd spectacle of academic feminists declaring that successful female candidates who don't share their politics are not feminists, but male candidates who do, are. Dig down to their real definition of feminism, and it turns out to be liberalism.
None of this has anything to do with women, just as multiculturalism has nothing to do with race. Take away the disguises, and you end up with the same old ideology marketed to target groups as a political organizing tactic.
As Michael Goldfarb explains in the Weekly Standard, this revelation has totally smashed the credibility of J-Street, which had repeatedly given the strong impression that Soros -- who has taken a consistently hostile attitude towards Israel and criticised the US decision not to negotiate with Hamas -- was not one of their funders.

Personally I agree that short term missions trips do very little in the communities they visit, and are purely for the "missionaries" (and I use that term loosely) going on them. This is despite the fact that they likely provide some moments of comfort or pleasure for locals - in the long run they do nothing, in fact in alot of cases I think they stunt development. That said, the head of TMI is pretty clear himself that these trips are about exposing kids to what is going on in the rest of the world.
Sending a nine year old kid on any kind of mission trip seems inappropriate to me, so I agree with some of those criticisms laid out in the article.
Eighty million Americans identify themselves as Evangelical Christians, making them the largest religious group in the United States, and while some say missionaries have been a force for good, providing much-needed medical care and education as well as championing the rights of indigenous people, others say the spread of Christianity reeks of colonialism and has obliterated native traditions. But that hasn’t stopped the Teenvangelists – this new breed of young, passionate American bent on spreading their old-time religion.
The article begins with a criticism of missionaries in general, fails to follow the most basic principal of evangelical Christians (Salvation - at one point the author wonders how anyone in can have any hope after a camp leader says that all sin is equal no matter what it is, but then fails to point what I am sure the leader also said - something along the lines of 'by grace you have been saved through faith'), and then ends with the image of an unhappy child hanging themselves from the prayer tower (which is compared to a prison tower, where in fact no child hung themself).
The venom and criticisms in the article and the comments beneath it have brought me back to my original statement: The worst way to smear someone in the UK is to refer to them as an evangelical Christian.

At the center of the ring of "peace activists" is a guy by the name of Hatem Abudayyeh, a left wing activist and Executive Director of the Arab American Action Network. I'm getting tons of emails about this, but Jim Hoft has a good summary of the link between the "charity" run by Abudayyeh suspected of supporting terror, and President Obama:
The Arab American Action Network was founded by former PLO operative and close Obama family friend Rashid Khalidi. Obama was a director of the Woods Fund from 1994 through 2001, when the board approved a $40,000 grant to the Arab American Action Network.
In 2003 Barack Obama was an honored guest at a dinner sponsored by the AAAN for former PLO-operative Rashid Khalidi.
Ah, so that's what he meant by "community activist"!
A small leap of logic would therefore suggest American or Israeli authorship of the virus. One competing suggestion points a finger at China as the culprit given widespread infection of Indian and Indonesian infrastructure.
But what if the target was not a nation state?
What if the target was Siemens itself?
The group - thought to be linked to Al Qaeda - were also planning similar attacks in France and Germany.
The alleged plotters had been tracked for some time by the agencies involved, with the latest plot unearthed after intelligence sharing between London, France, Germany and the US.
The plot is believed to have been at an advanced stage, but was not imminent.
It came to light after the US military began helping its European allies by trying to pick off the organisers.
In an effort to foil a suspected terrorist plot, the Central Intelligence Agency increased missile strikes against militants in Pakistan's tribal regions.
The strikes, launched from unmanned drone aircraft, represent a rare use of the CIA's drone campaign to preempt a possible attack on the West.
Just a reminder to be vigilant.
Oh and....thank you US Military.

Burnley College, in Lancashire, placed a notice from principal Hugh Bramwell at reception informing all students, staff and visitors they must remove items which cover their face on arrival.
Of greater interest is a quote which appears near the end of the article:
Last year the college, which describes itself as a provider of sixth form, university and adult education, turned away Shawana Bilqes, 19, when she tried to enroll.
Staff asked her to remove her burka - which covered everything but her eyes - for identity fraud purposes.
But she told them she could not because of her religious beliefs and was forced to abandon plans to sign up her course.
Shawana, from Burnley, Lancs, said: 'I am not surprised that the college has decided to ban veils completely after what happened to me.
'It is sad as it will force students to go elsewhere.'
The 19-year-old added: 'It is my choice to wear the veil.
'I live around the corner from the college in an area where there are so many practising Muslims. It was an ideal place for me to studyand that's why I chose it.
'I tried to compromise but the college wouldn't. They sent me a letter to say I could continue with my course if I stopped wearing the veil.
'We are in the 21st Century and we get people from all walks of life. I'm in the police cadets as well and yet it's not a problem wearing the veil there.'
While not all men can, or should, be flannel wearing lumberjacks the distinction between men and women's fashion is increasingly blurred. Nail polish, eye makeup, low cut shirts, skinny jeans, are all examples of feminine fashion trends that girly men have been embracing.
The other day I visited a local university campus. Outside one of the building's a group of construction workers were on their lunch break.
Compare and contrast: Construction workers wearing jeans covered in paint and sawdust, heavy duty workboots, hard hats on the ground beside them, eating massive sandwiches out of their extra large lunch coolers.
Academic wannabes roaming campus in skinny jeans, EMO tshirts and Converse running shoes, carrying their manpurses in their supple uncalloused hands, while texting someone on their Iphone and taking a sip Non-fat, no whip, double blended, grande cinnamon infused moccacino ice.
To borrow a phrase from TMZ: Who'd you rather?
The BBC has struck a deal to stop the public knowing exactly how much its top stars are paid despite opening its accounts to the public spending watchdog.

I think there is some truth to this. I would also like to commission a study of women on the far left and their relationship with their fathers (actully let us begin by asking if they even know their father). In short, I would like to do a psychological study of women on the far left and what draws them to value systems that appear to be the inverse of their ideological foundations.
I digress....read the link.

One might suppose that moderate and peaceful Muslim leaders would repudiate the Muslim Association of Canada as well as all other organizations inspired by Banna. Yet among the speakers in a recent series of lectures presented by the London chapter of MAC were Sheikh Jamal Taleb, Imam of the London Muslim Mosque, and Dr. Munir El-Kassem, Muslim chaplain at the University of Western Ontario and Imam for the Islamic Centre of Southwestern Ontario.
Editor Joe Ruscitti objected to the column on the basis of a reference to Dr. Munir El -Kassem. Readers may recall an earlier post I did on El-Kassem in which I pointed out his defense of the Taliban for the destruction of the Bhudda Statues and his ringing endorsement of Louis Farrakhan:

Domestic cooking was chucked aside as an irrelevance, an icon of unfairness to women — which allowed a very eager food industry to leap forward with the convenience-food solution.
This is happening in North America, although I think it is happening on a greater scale in the UK. Every time I find myself on the tube with a cake of homemade dessert people actually approach me to ask if I made it myself, and then act shocked when I say that I did. (And believe me - aside from people asking directions is the has always been the only time strangers have ever talked to me on the tube). People just cannot understand that someone under 50 would actually know how to cook.
Maybe I am the exception because I love cooking and have been buying cookbooks since I was 5??

While scrolling the web yet another one of his self-penned masterpieces has appeared, this one is about the shooting at Dawson College in Montreal a few years ago.
Headlines across North America would have immediately declared this incident as a terrorist attack, thus prompting media outlets across the world to follow suit. Prime Minister Stephen Harper would come on TV with the same smug face he wore after the 17 arrests in Ontario in June , preaching the virtues of being Bush’s apprentice and rallying Canadians to embark wholeheartedly on the Neo-Con Crusade. Condoleezza Rice would also have flashed a gap-toothed smile on TV networks, reiterating Neo-Con philosophy with increased gusto. Perhaps the Dark Lord, Dubya himself, would have expressed some words with the very eloquence that has made him famous.
Islamophobes would crawl out of the woodworks in droves, advocating profiling and harassment of anyone who "looks Muslim". The mainstream media would feature all kinds of so-called experts spewing venomous right-wing rhetoric. Islam would be attacked as a vicious, violent religion. Public support for the Canadian military mission in Afghanistan, which is extremely low currently, would potentially rise – not for particular support of the mission but more for "vengeance". Muslim groups would come out, tirelessly condemning the attacks, yet they would still be hounded by many for “not doing anything”. They would face a backlash in the form of mosque vandalism, hate and maybe even physical assault.
And this is just a taster. You can read the whole thing here. (Although personally I wouldn't bother giving Al Jazeera the hits.)
Can someone please explain to me how dearest Shujaat passed the screening required to be a Federal employee?
Shujaat must be very upset that his terror plotting ball hockey buddies have been arrested. How will he vent his anger?
OK moving on....
As some of my readers have likely guessed I was in the US of A several weeks ago on holidays. While I was there the body of a US Marine killed Afghanistan was repatriated and his funeral was held. It was very powerful to see not just a community, but what seemed like an entire state rallying in support of this young man and his family. In the most tragic of circumstances there is something incredibly uplifting, seeing all these people who "get it." People were lined up for hours to pay their respects, all the local news channels were covering the story, this man died a hero - and the people knew it. God bless the American soldier.
While still on vacation I was driving through a rural area on a beautiful sunny day. As I passed an apple orchard I noticed a stand set up on the side of the road. After a quick u-turn I was staring at more apples than I had seen in one place for a long time, dreaming up all the things I could make if only someone was actually working at the stand. This is when I noticed a note stuck to an unlocked cash box: "Apples - $9.00/bushel. Honor system." I left my money in the box, loaded the trunk up with apples and drove away. These are my people.
The French target was a fundraiser for IDF soldiers in March, at which the commander of the navy, Rear Admiral Eli Marom, was guest of honour.
Security was stepped up around Jewish institutions there following the arrest of the group by Egyptian security forces as they attempted to board a plane to France.
The thwarted attack was part of what France's interior minister Brice Hortefeux described as a "worrying spiral" of threats to the Jewish community there. Threatening letters were recently posted to two community centres in the city. And France's intelligence chief Bernard Squarcini warned this week that the risk of an attack on French soil has "never been higher".
He told Journal du Dimanche that one terrorist was being extradited to France, accused of planning to blow himself up at the Libi Fund event, attended by over 1,000 people.
However, according to Israeli sources, the would-be bombers were French citizens of Palestinian and North African origin, who smuggled their way into the Gaza Strip in order to train in a terror camp identified with the Islamic Jihad.
It is understood detectives are hunting a lone Asian man in connection with the attack, which was witnessed by several people.
Initially, the murder – in broad daylight – appeared to be a clumsy attack carried out by someone with a personal grudge.
But the possibility that Dr Farooq, 50, was the victim of a political assassination appeared to gather credence after MQM members in London claimed the Taliban had issued a fatwa against party officials for their staunch opposition to Islamic fundamentalism in Pakistan.
Gangs torched vehicles and a shop in Karachi, where gas stations, schools and markets were closed and public transport halted yesterday as news of Dr Farooq's death spread.
Scotland Yard refused to speculate on possible motives for the killing in a quiet suburban road in Edgware, insisting officers were keeping an open mind.

The percentage of “priority” plots linked to al-Qaeda in the tribal areas of Pakistan had dropped from 75 per cent two years ago to 50 per cent now. The threat had increased from Somalia and Yemen.
Mr Evans says a “significant number” of British residents are training in camps run by the al-Qaeda-linked group al-Shabaab. As many as 100 Britons of Pakistani, Bangladeshi and West African backgrounds had travelled to Somalia.
The country “shows many of the characteristics that made Afghanistan so dangerous as a seedbed for terrorism in the period before the fall of the Taliban,” he says. “I am concerned that it is only a matter of time before we see terrorism on our streets inspired by those fighting alongside al-Shabaab.”
The web grows. Be vigilant. (That is vigilant, not vigilante.)
SMW is so glad that Jonathan Hoffman (who wrote the above) and Jonathan Sacerdoti (below) are Jews living in Britain today. The work they do is invaluable. Take the time to read both their writeups (the satire and the press release).
Jonathan Sacerdoti, Director of Public Affairs of the Zionist Federation, said "the TUC Congress calls for an immediate end to the military blockade on Gaza . This can only happen when there is no remaining threat of terrorist rocket attacks emanating from the Gaza strip. Rockets are currently still being launched towards Israeli civilian areas. In recent months Israel lifted many of the restrictions on what is allowed to pass into the Gaza strip, but it remains clear to all who are open minded enough to see it that until a better method for ensuring Israel's security from terrorist attacks exists, restrictions must stay in place. This is simply common sense.
"The TUC should concentrate on representing the interests of its members at a time when cuts are affecting ever more of them. There is no legitimate reason for the TUC to be targeting Israel (and no other country in the world) according the dubious desires of a group of its members who take few (if any) proactive actions to foster peace in the Middle East . The PSC continually seeks to hijack Trade Unions to promote their anti-Israel and anti-peace agenda. It is a divisive and disruptive organization.“

[Note: Stephen Harper has already made the mistake.]
I will whip myself into a frenzy about a fringe wingnut who appears to be a total jackass that the majority of Americans want nothing to do with when the following issues receive international attention and are condemned by POTUS and world leaders:
Ohio Man Burns American Flags on Memorial Day
Flag Set on Fire at Veteran's Home
Protestors Burn Effigy of US Soldier
American Military has to burn Bibles in Afghanistan
Muslims Attack Christian Center in Indonesia
Four Christian Apostates Beheaded
Afghans burn Obama Effigy, Shout Death to Jews and Christians
Muslim Protestors chant Death to Israel and Death to USA while burning the flags of Armenia, Great Britain, and the USA along with an effigy of Netanyahu.
The story of the Koran burning has been around for months now. It is only in the past few weeks that the MSM has picked it up. It is the media that has turned this into a big story and is more than happy to whip the world into a frenzy. When a wingnut and a few of his followers announce their plans to burn a book it "puts our troops at risk." However when the media leaks classified information, smears soldiers, leaks videos without proper fact checking or clarification they are just doing their job.
Protest will take place over this, and the media will say this hatred of America is a direct result of the Quran being burned. Yes, people will be mad that the Quran was burned but this will only stoke their hatred of the West, not cause it.
More on this later. Maybe.

Having written many posts about the lack of gentlemen currently populating earth I feel obliged to share this nugget with you. Last week I found myself sitting in McDonald's, located in a small North American city. While I was sipping on my chocolate milk and watching tennis on the flat screen I noticed a young couple (teenagers) sitting at a nearby table. The look of summer love was unmistakable. After finishing their meal I watched the two walk out of the restaurant to the young man's SUV (presumably his parent's) when - to my surprise - the young man walked straught to the passenger side of the car to open the door for his girlfriend. Culture shock ensued. I had a huge smile on my face as I headed for my rental car.
On July 27th SMW broke the story tying the iFreedom Halal MasterCard to the RS Foundation and its Jew-hating, 9/11 truther Director Shujaat Wasty (who also happens to be an employee of the Canadian Federal government). Fellow bloggers such as Blazing Cat Fur, Ghost of a Flea, Jawa Report, Moose and Squirrel run the story.
Several days later Daniel Greenfield (Sultan Knish) delves into the connection between the RS Foundation and Human Concern International.
Frustration grows as no news outlets in Canada seem interested in this story and the RS Foundation begins scrubbing their webpage. On August 10th we confirm (what we already knew) that Wasty is a Federal employee.
Nobody cares. The media sleeps.
Fast forward to August 28th and SMW is deep in the South, having not seen a computer for days and opens her email to find a note from a friend at the Jawa Report asking her about these Canadian terror arrests. After a few rapid emails and newspaper reads it is clear: the RS Foundation is tied to a number of suspects in the terror cases. Suddenly SMW's site is being visited by multiple news outlets. Funny how that works.
Dr. Khurram Sher, one of the accused, is an officer of the RS Foundation. In a blog post, RS Foundation Director Shujaat Wasty describes Dr. Sher as a "cousin." (Details and more on this can be found at the intrepid Blazing Cat Fur). Moving along - Dr. Sher (yes, this is the former Canadian Idol contestant who had recently been hired on by a hospital in a small Ontario town) was living in a rather pricey neighbourhood, in a house owned by Dr. Fasahat Wasty. However, in the same post, Blazing Cat Fur revealed that Dr. Wasty's wife, Zeba Hashmi, also described Dr. Sher as a distant relative. Hmmmmm the hip bone is connect to the backbone, the backbone is connected......
One of the other terror suspects, Misbahuddin Ahmed (an Xray technician arrested in Ottawa) was active in the online community, and according to the National Post was involved in Montreal's branch of the Al Maghrib institute. Also tied to this institute is Dr. Wasty's wife, Zeba Hashmi who's brother founded the institute. The National Post article is definitely worth reading - it also points out that Ahmed's brother-in-law and sister ran an Islamic children's magazine called Recess Kids which boasted advice from a "Dr. Sher" and carried advertisements for the RS Foundation.
MontrealMuslims.ca sends out an email instructing members not to cooperate with authorities.
At court appearances the usual suspects show up to cry injustice.
What ties all these suspects together? The Muslim Ball Hockey League in Montreal and the RS Foundation. When SMW began investigating the RS Foundation I found that numerous board members and their buddies were all playing in this Muslim Ball Hockey League, posting stuff on Montreal based Muslims forums about the ball hockey league, etc. Wasty even won some scoring award (see Ghost of a Flea, can't find exact link at the moment). *UPDATE: here is the link, apprently the ball hockey award was actually named after Dr. Sher. Thank you Flea!* These guys were even hosting Canada Day BBQs and writing little love notes about the cabane à sucre (if you are thinking wth you're not the only one). This whole story is one massive tangled jihadi web. I have little analysis to offer at the moment as I am extremely jetlagged and running out of steam in the wee hours. Blazing Cat Fur also has a good roundup of events.
The CBC recently reported that over 50 detonators were found in one of the accused's apartment.
Sources have confirmed that Dr. Sher's family has fled the London (Canada) area. The London Mosque issued a statement asking people not to "rush to judgement" and the mayor even appeared because everyone is soooo scared of backlash lash lash. Dr. Sher had barely arrived in London, perhaps it is more worth taking a look at who helped him get to London and their connections to radical groups (see notes above).
Let's end with this: Salim Mansur (a Canadian Muslim based in London, Canada) wrote a piece for the Toronto Sun on the need for profiling. Go read it.
Thanks to all of you who sent emails regarding the RS Foundation coverage. I appreciate your notes. Next time send cash. Ah, if only you could do that through email.
Anyway, we are up and running again.....stay tuned.

Unfortunately SMW is on the road without her computer and with very limited internet access. I will be writing more on this later but in the meantime please visit Blazing Cat Fur, Ghost of a FLea and the Jawa Report for more details on this story.
More to come.

Tikkun Olam means 'repairing the world', not screwing it up.
Making the world a better place, in other words and not actively working toward the destruction of Judeo-Christian society.
I guess they missed the memo.
Anyway, the great Kathy Shaidle said that us anti-Tikkun Olam Jews should figure out a Hebrew phrase for "destroying the world" to apply to these douchebags.
And I just came up with it....
But no one will say it!
It is amazing to me that no one will break ranks and say out loud what they say to me 10 times a day: "This president hates business, hates successful business people, and hates the basic way business is done in this country!"
Believe me, not only is it unspoken but it is vehemently and viscerally mutual. I can't find a business person who, privately, will say a good word about this guy or his team. He is despised. Just not openly. Never will be. Too dangerous. Seditious even.
